A former Olympic runner has broken the Parkrun record while training in Edinburgh.
Scottish athlete Andy Butchart, 31, broke the record for 5km (3.1 mile) while running near Cramond on Saturday morning, June 24. Butchart finished the route in a blistering 13 minutes and 45 seconds.
The previous record set by fellow Olympian Andy Baddeley was just three seconds slower but had stood for more than a decade. Butchart competed in the 5,000m at the 2016 and 2020 games, reports the BBC.

He finished 38 seconds ahead of the Scottish 5k champion James Crowe. Taking to Instagram after breaking the record, Andy said: "PARK RUN WORLD RECORD!! 13:45 official time! Great morning out with the Central AC lads down at Cramond."
Fellow runner Adrian Stott tweeted: "See what happens when an Olympian ships up at Silverknowes in Edinburgh to run a 5k and there's 'Nae wind!'"
Park Run UK shared his post and wrote: "Brilliant achievement Andy". The female record was set last year by Samantha Harrison, 27, in Long Eaton, Derbyshire, on Saturday in 15 minutes and 37 seconds.
