Former Steeler Ben Roethlisberger said he considered comeback with 49ers

You might want to be sitting down for this one.

In an interview with Pittsburgh radio host Mark Madden on Tuesday, former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said he was pursued by the San Francisco 49ers late in the 2022 season. And he considered it.

“I’d be lying if I didn’t say there was a small part of me that was intrigued,” Roethlisberger said. “I could still do it and prove to people that I could still play. At the end of the day, I just can’t see myself in anything other than black and gold.”

Roethlisberger spent all 18 of his NFL season with the Steelers. He holds every major statistical passing record in franchise history, has two Super Bowl championships and he headed to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The idea of Big Ben coming out of retirement to don a 49ers jersey is nightmare fuel for some fans. It brings back less-than-fond memories of when Steelers legend Franco Harris spent his 13th and final NFL season with the Seattle Seahawks. It just wasn’t right.
