Steve Clarke led Scotland to one their most famous ever victories after securing a sensational upset against Spain.
The experienced manager and former Buddies defender, who played almost 200 times in the black and white stripes before joining Chelsea, masterminded an incredible 2-0 win at Hampden Park last night - sealed by Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay's clinical brace.
Saints Academy star John McGinn picked up his 54th cap for his country and impressed again in the dark blue, helping to lead a high press that stifled the much-fancied Spaniards.
And fellow St Mirren youth product Kenny McLean came on in the second half to help see the win out, much to the delight of the raucous Tartan Army faithful.
Lawrence Shankland, who enjoyed two loan spells at the SMiSA Stadium from Aberdeen, also came on as a sub late on and almost made it three with a chance that deflected into the arms of Spain keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.
The win puts Scotland in charge of Group A, with main rivals for a top two spot Norway surprisingly drawing 1-1 with Georgia yesterday.
Scotland travel to Oslo to take on the Norwegians in their next group game in June, before taking on Georgia in Glasgow in the same international break.
