A former Michigan State quarterback is back in the driver’s seat for an SEC school.
Payton Thorne has reportedly regained the starting quarterback gig for Auburn, according to Matt Zenitz of 247Sports. Thorne will get the start this week against Oklahoma.
Thorne is in his second season with the Tigers after transferring during the spring portal window in 2023. He started all 13 games he played last year for the Tigers, and he started the Tigers’ first two games this year before being benched in favor of Hank Brown. However, after a pair of starts for Brown, it appears Auburn is going back to Thorne this week.
Thorne has completed 40 of 70 pass attempts for 700 yards, seven touchdowns and five interceptions in three games this year. He has also ran for 102 yards and two touchdowns on 24 attempts this season.
