No matter how game seven of the Stanley Cup Final shook out, a Spartan was going home with a ring.
In the end it was Mackenzie MacEachern’s Blues beating Torey Krug’s Bruins to take home Lord Stanley’s Cup.
MacEachern played for Michigan State from 2013-2016, racking up 68 points in an impressive Spartan career. MacEachern played for two seasons in the AHL before making his NHL debut on January 10 of this year. In total MacEachern played 29 games for the Blues this season, scoring five points in the process. He also signed a one-way contract with the Blues in February, ensuring a consistent stay in the NHL next season.
Although MacEachern was on the playoff roster for the Blues, he did not see any postseason action, which is common for guys that split the season between the AHL and NHL. He was in the building for game 7 and once the result was assured, he and the other healthy scratches went to the locker room and got dressed so they could be on the ice for the celebration.
MachEachern is the first Spartan since Duncan Kieth in 2015 to be on the cup winning team.
