College Football 24/7 writer Chase Goodbread celebrated Memorial Day by ranking the 11 greatest NFL players to ever come from service academies, and former Seattle Seahawks left guard Mike Wahle came in at No. 5 overall.
Wahle was originally a wide receiver when he arrived at the Naval Academy, but he blossomed into a standout offensive guard and was eventually drafted by the Packers with the first pick of the supplemental draft in 1998.
He had an accomplished 11-year NFL career, playing seven seasons with the Packers, three more with the Panthers and then spending his final season in Seattle in 2008, when he started 10 games.
Wahle was a Pro Bowler in 2005 with Carolina and ended up starting in nine postseason games during his career.
Wahle finished fifth on Goodbread’s list, behind Tex Coulter, Bob Hoernschemeyer, Ed Sprinkle and Hall of Fame quarterback Roger Staubach, who came in at No. 1.
Wahle is one of a handful of service academy players who have played for the Seahawks, including current wide receiver Keenan Reynolds, who starred at Navy as a quarterback before coming to the Emerald City.
