Former Scottish Tory MP takes up job at Donald Trump golf resort

A FORMER Scottish Tory MP has taken up a job at one of Donald Trump’s golf resorts.

Ross Thomson, who also served as a Scottish Tory MSP between 2016 and 2017, now has a position in corporate sales at Trump International in Balmedie, Aberdeenshire.

Thomson has been a vocal supporter of the right-wing US President and previously welcomed him to Scotland in 2023, thanking him for signing his “Make America Great Again” hat.

Since his departure from politics and Westminster in 2019, Thomson has worked in various public affairs roles.

He helped to run Boris Johnson’s leadership campaign in Scotland, and is a vocal supporter of current Tory leader Kemi Badenoch and her Scottish counterpart Russell Findlay.

The 37-year-old has previously dined with Trump at his Florida resort Mar-a-Lago, and campaigned for his return to the White House last year.

Now, the Scotsman reports Thomson’s new career move, having taken up the post in February, according to his Linkedin page.

He has repeatedly posted about hospitality packages available for corporate guests at the resort, costing thousands of pounds for tables at the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship Legends Tour coming up in July.

Thomson described a new course at the Aberdeenshire resort, due to open later this year, as a “magnificent modern masterpiece”.

The Scotsman has suggested it is the first time Trump’s Scottish businesses have employed a former elected politician.

It is the latest news of Thomson cosying up to the US President, having attended his inauguration in January.

He shared photographs on his social media, alongside Trump’s former lawyer Rudy Giuliani and US senators Ted Cruz and Tommy Tuberville.

Thomson previously served as director of Scotland policy for the Unionist think tank Centre for the Union alongside DUP MP Ian Paisley.

He stood down from his Westminster seat of Aberdeen South after he was accused of sexually assaulting a Labour parliamentarian in 2019.
