Former Scotland striker Leigh Griffiths back training with Livingston following Australian stint

Former Celtic and Scotland striker Leigh Griffiths is back training with Livingston as he bids to find a new club.

Griffiths, who started his career with the Tony Macaroni Arena outfit, had been training with the club earlier this season as he aimed to get back to full fitness.

The 32-year-old recently had a two-game spell with Australian side Mandurah City, who are coached by former Raith Rovers and Airdrie striker John Baird.

Griffiths, who boasts seven SPFL Premiership titles to his name from his time at Celtic, has had a challenging time in recent seasons after struggling at Dundee and Falkirk last term.

It is unclear whether Livi gaffer David Martindale is interested in offering the striker a deal but during his previous training stint he said the wasn’t one on the table at that point.

He commented: “Leigh was scunnered with football and he’s a former Livingston player and I wanted to help.

“I know he has had some trouble off the park but everyone in football I have spoken to about him said how good a guy he is. I am finding that myself. He’s worked so hard, he’s lost weight and body fat and he’s been brilliant around the place.

“I want him to get back to where he should be, as we all know how good a player he is. He has to find that player again. From a few months ago to now he is in fantastic shape. Probably the best I have seen from him in a year. What I have seen is that desire to go and do better.

“It would have been easy for him to down tools in the summer and come in here in bad shape. But that’s not the case, he’s done a lot of hard work and I’m here to help him with the final bit and get him a club.”
