Former RTE star Louise McSharry looks back at 'difficult' time when 2FM show was axed

Former RTE host Louise McSharry has opened up on the 'difficult' time she went through after losing her job at 2FM.

The radio star's weekend show was axed from the station in October 2021.

Louise appeared on Virgin Media's The Six O' Clock Show to discuss the shocking departure, as well as her exciting new venture.

Speaking to Martin King and Karen Koster, Louise said: "Obviously I think I’ve been very open about the fact that at the time it was really difficult.’

"There was no indication that it was coming so it was very abrupt and that was hard. It’s always hard, I think, when a job ends whether it’s your choice or not, it can be a difficult transition and when it comes out of nowhere there’s a lot more to it."

The broadcaster said she thought it was important to be honest with her fans about her sudden exit from the station.

"I just felt I really needed to be honest because first of all, my situation wasn’t unique, there are lots of people who have difficult endings to jobs in all different industries so I always think it can be useful to share your experience," she said.

"I also just wanted to be honest about the fact that yeah, this is not fun. I’m not loving this but that’s life.

"I think that helps other people. I’ve certainly learned so much from people being honest about their difficult experiences."

However, things are looking up for Louise as she has launched her new podcast, which has already received rave reviews.

"I’m so excited to have my podcast that I’ve been working on out. It’s been so well-received. I’ve gotten incredible support from people," she said about her career move.
