A former Royal Marine has launched an appeal for information on social media after a set of his prosthetic legs were stolen when his car was broken into in west London.

Mark Ormrod, 40, told his followers on X that the thieves left his car damaged and also made off with gym clothes and jujitsu attire.

He posted on the platform on Monday night: “Had my car broken into last night. They stole a bag full of sweaty gym cloths, another bag with my JiuJitsu Gi in and what’s really inconvenient is they took a set of my prosthetic legs!”

The triple-amputee athlete won gold at the Invictus Games and received an MBE for his services to the Royal Marines and veterans.

Ormrod’s car was parked at a Premier Inn in Chiswick and although the hotel’s security cameras were pointed at the vehicle, it did not capture the incident.

“Despite having 3 cameras pointing at my car I was told by the staff at the hotel that they couldn’t see any activity as the view to my car was blocked by another car (might be time to reposition those cameras),” he added.

“The sad thing is to think that someone would break into a car parked in a disabled parking space and steal equipment someone needs to live independently and not even care.”

Ormrod was hit by an improvised explosive device in 2007 while serving in Afghanistan, resulting in the amputation of both legs and his right arm.

He has since worked for the Royal Marines Charity and was awarded the BBC South West Sports Personality of the Year award for 2018 for his participation in the Invictus Games.

Premier Inn told BBC News that it is looking into the incident.
