A group of twenty-three former officials who served in Republican administrations, including former lawmakers, have voiced their opposition to Kash Patel's nomination to lead the FBI. The group, which includes former Trump White House attorney Ty Cobb, expressed concerns about Patel's motivations and suitability for the role.
In a letter addressed to senators, the group highlighted their belief that Patel is driven by revenge and lacks the necessary experience and temperament to effectively lead the FBI. They emphasized their commitment to upholding the rule of law and warned that confirming Patel could jeopardize the FBI's integrity and its vital mission.

Patel has been a vocal critic of the FBI, advocating for the dismantling of the agency's headquarters in Washington, DC, and referring to it as a 'museum of the deep state.' In his book titled 'Government Gangsters: The Deep State, the Truth, and the Battle for Our Democracy,' Patel criticized what he described as 'crazed partisans' who he believes have misused the law enforcement apparatus against former President Trump.
Patel's confirmation hearing is scheduled to take place on Thursday, where his views and qualifications will likely face scrutiny from lawmakers and officials. The opposition from these former Republican officials adds another layer of complexity to Patel's nomination process, raising questions about his ability to lead the FBI effectively and impartially.
