Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher says he can't see why VAR got involved and ruled out Elliot Anderson's header at Nottingham Forest. Referee Paul Tierney originally awarded Newcastle United the goal, but was told to go to the monitor and disallow the goal for a supposed offside in the build-up.
Sean Longstaff was adjudged to be offside, despite Forest defender Filipe playing the ball off the Newcastle midfielder. Under the laws of the game, the goal would have stood if the Brazilian defender deliberately cleared the ball in the direction of Longstaff.
Which Gallagher - and many others - believes he did. Instead, Anderson's goal was chalked off at an important time in the game with both sides in need of three points.

Gallagher told Sky Sports: "I look for the clues and one of the biggest clues was Forest set up to kick-off and they set up to kick-off when the delay was ongoing. I don't really see why VAR got involved because for me Filipe clearly goes to kick the ball out for a corner.
"I think Jacob Murphy who's behind would intercept the ball, he knows that and goes to kick the ball out for a corner. Murphy isn't in an offside position and he's quite entitled to be there.
"He goes to clear the ball out for a corner. If we go through these [Images], has the ball travelled from distance? Definitely. Has the player had a clear view? Definitely.
"Was the ball moving quickly? Not particularly. Was the direction of the ball unexpected? It's come to him and he's gone to intercept the ball.
"Did he have time to coordinate his body, movement? Well he goes to kick it out for a corner which you'd expect a defender to do in that position because that's his job.
"It ticks all the boxes for saying he has control of the ball and he's played it. For me it's a goal and it should have stood."
