Former Rangers winger sustains serious injury, will miss rest of season

Former Rangers winger Scott Wright will miss the rest of the season after suffering a serious knee injury while playing for Birmingham City.

The 27-year-old, who left Ibrox last summer for an undisclosed fee, has made 20 appearances and scored three goals for the Blues.

However, he was forced off in the ninth minute of Saturday’s goalless draw at Reading, with subsequent scans confirming a long-term injury layoff.

Birmingham boss Chris Davies admitted it was a tough blow for both the player and the club.

“Sadly, Scott Wright is facing a longer-term knee injury, which is a real blow,” Davies said.

“I’m sorry for Scott that that’s happened because he has had some big moments for us this season.”

Wright, who won the Scottish Premiership title with Rangers in 2021, had been enjoying a strong first campaign in England’s third-tier before this setback.
