Former Rangers star Kenny Miller's Audi SUV targeted in arson attack outside flat

Ex Rangers star Kenny Miller’s car was targeted in a late-night arson attack.

The former Scotland captain’s Audi Q7 was damaged after thugs doused it with an accelerant.

The terrifying incident happened outside a family member’s flat in Hamilton, Lanarkshire.

Miller, 42, and his wife Laura, 33, were temporarily staying with his mother-in-law Elizabeth O’Donnell when the drama happened.

Sources said the suspects failed to set the car alight after pouring a flammable liquid over its windscreen.

It is understood they were disturbed before starting the blaze however the vehicle was left badly damaged.

Police were called to the property shortly after midnight earlier this month.

Miller, recently appointed assistant head coach at Falkirk, is the latest prominent figure to be targeted by firestarters. Others include his former Gers team mate Allan McGregor and ex Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell.

A source said: “Kenny says he has no idea why this happened or what’s prompted it, the family are totally in the dark.

“He tries to keep his professional and family lives as separate as possible.

“They’ve got a lot going on just now with a new baby and Kenny’s new job.

“It’s shocking that this should happen to them.”

The Edinburgh-born star had a glittering career has one of Scottish football’s top strikers.

Miller played for top clubs on both side of the Border including three spells at Rangers, Celtic, Hibs, Wolves and Derby County.

Edinburgh -born Miller also played 69 times for Scotland, scoring 18 goals.

He finished his career at Partick Thistle in 2020 before going to Australia to take up coaching roles at Newcastle Jets and Western Sydney Wanderers.

However Miller and Laura, who got married in 2010, returned to Scotland last year. Miller was appointed assistant head coach of Scottish League One side Falkirk last month.

The couple, who have three children, started their own media firm in November.

They are listed as directors of K&L Media Ltd, thought to be set up to channel Miller’s income from TV and radio.

Sources said they have been staying with Laura’s mum Elizabeth while they wait to move into a new family home.

“No one was injured. Enquiries are continuing.”

In 2018, Miller accepted a Direct Measure for the role he played in a fight outside Da Luciano’s restaurant in Bothwell, Lanarkshire.

He was reported to the procurator fiscal in connection with the bust-up that saw wife Laura claim she was left with scars and footprints on her face after being attacked.

The couple both gave evidence at the trial of their friend Billy Steele who walked free from court after being cleared of extortion and violence threats linked to the incident.

The attack on his car is latest in a string of deliberate fire attacks on prominent people in Scotland.

Ex Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell’s home was torched in Thorntonhall, near Glasgow, weeks before he left his role.

All four incidents happened within days of each other in May last year.
