Former Rangers star Jason Cummings 'over the moon' after landing Australia call-up

Former Rangers and Hibs star Jason Cummings has landed his first call-up for Australia

The former Light Blues and Hibs star netted ten goals in his debut A-League campaign and will now land the chance to impress Socceroos boss Graham Arnold in the double-header with New Zealand with the World Cup finals just a couple of months away.

He is joined by Hearts duo Cammy Devlin and Nathaniel Atkinson and Hibs star Martin Boyle as a host of SPFL players get the opportunity to impress and put themselves in the window to secure a spot on the plane to Qatar 2022 in November. Kye Rowles misses out through injury but he should return to action in five weeks in a major boost for club and country. The friendly double-header will be played next Thursday and Sunday [September 22 and September 25].

On his selection, Cummings said: "I am just really excited, buzzing - this was on my mind when I came to Australia and I was over the moon when I heard the news.

"My Grandparents came over here in the 1960s, Australia is close to my family. I can see myself living here for the rest of my life as well. To get a call-up for the famous Socceroos is unbelievable."

Boss Arnold added: "I could see straight away when he (Cummings) hit the ground running, I could see he was a goalscorer. We've got four number 9's here and out of them, it's a matter of picking the one that is in the best form."

On Devlin's involvement, boss Arnold said: "Cam (Devlin) came to the Olympics, he's gone overseas and has done very well.

"He brings something totally different to our other midfielders, as a defensive number six."

Former Celtic star Tom Rogic secured a move to West Brom earlier this week but has not been included in the national team squad.

However, the door has been left open for the World Cup Finals.

Arnold continued: "Tom (Rogic) called me to share the news of where he was signing. He's a player that brings a lot to us, but at this moment he's not been selected because he hasn't kicked a ball since May.

" It's all about Tommy working hard and making sure he's in the form of his life."
