Dave MacKinnon has stepped down from the board at Hamilton Academical on health grounds, amid a boardroom shake-up at New Douglas Park.
Former Rangers and Airdrie defender McKinnon was rushed to hospital for lifesaving surgery in February last year after smashing his skull when falling down a flight of stairs in Edinburgh last year. The accident ruptured an artery on his brain.
And Accies have now announced the 66-year-old will step back from his role as director of football at Accies, although it is hoped he can return to the position in future.
It comes amid changes to the structure of the board at the Scottish Championship club to bring a "renewed collective focus."
This sees the role of chief executive 'disappear' as the most recent incumbent, Ronnie MacDonald, moves to a newly created position of President of the Elite Youth Academy.
Allan Maitland will continue in his role as club chairman.
A statement from Hamilton Accies read: "The Board of Hamilton Academical FC Ltd announces a number of changes, effective from today.
"These are the Board’s response to a review of its strategy and operations which identified the need to improve procedures and accountability.
"This brings to an end the previous structure of three individual Boards separately looking after commercial, football and community aspects of the club’s business, with all of these now managed directly by one HAFC Board.
"Each of the Club’s Directors supports this change, recognising that this will substantially increase their personal involvement in the club’s affairs.
"The whole rationale is driven by a recognition that the club requires a renewed collective focus at all levels in achieving its objectives both on the park and in the community.
"Allan Maitland is re-confirmed as Club Chairman and Les Gray likewise as Vice Chairman, both to serve in these positions until January 2028.
"Bob Hay, previously an Associate Director, joins the Board bringing his business expertise to complement the Board’s existing skill set.
"The post of Chief Executive disappears with Ronnie MacDonald being appointed to the newly created position as President of our Elite Youth Academy.
"Finally, David MacKinnon steps down from the Board, and as Director of Football, for health reasons as a result of a recent accident, with a view to returning in due course."
