Former Rangers kid Nathan Patterson breaks Scotland injury silence after concerning Clarke comment

Nathan Patterson has broken his silence after being stretchered off for Scotland during their Nations League clash with Ukraine on Wednesday night.

Steve Clarke's men ran out 3-0 winners at Hampden to take control at the top of League B Group 1 and put the destiny of the group in their own hands ahead of facing the Republic of Ireland on Saturday night and Ukraine next midweek. John McGinn and a brace from substitute Lyndon Dykes secured all three points for the Dark Blues.

However, the loss of former Rangers and current Everton star Patterson was a major blemish on what else was a perfect night for the national team. He had to be replaced during the first half through injury with a stretcher taking the young full-back from the opposite end of the pitch in a worrying sight for both Clarke and the Tartan Army. But the 20-year-old has since posted on social media to offer his thanks to the home support following last night's game.

He wrote: Thanks for all the messages last night. Really appreciate the support. The boys were great from start to finish."

Patterson has been flying for Everton in the English Premier League under Frank Lampard this season. He has played every single minute of the league campaign and established himself as a key player on the team sheet.

His performance in the Merseyside derby against Liverpool and in his one on one match-up with Luis Diaz earned him rave reviews from a number of pundits.

Speaking about the full-back, Clarke told Premier Sports: "It doesn't look too good when he goes off on a stretcher. He obviously felt something on his leg, we'll just wait and see what the medics say and how it pans out. Hopefully, it's not too serious and hopefully he's not out too long."
