The exclusion of Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers from the latest Nigeria squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe has raised eyebrows among fans and pundits alike.
Despite his prolific form this season, netting an impressive 22 goals, the 30-year-old has been surprisingly overlooked by Nigeria manager Éric Chelle.
Dessers is not short of critics yet he’s proved a pivotal figure for Rangers, with his clinical finishing and vital contributions helping the Light Blues reach the Europa League last-16.
However, his absence from the Super Eagles’ squad has come as a shock, particularly as he has been one of the standout Nigerian strikers in Europe this campaign.

And in an intriguing twist, former Rangers flop Umar Sadiq has been included among the 23-man squad.
Sadiq had only bagged four goals from 50 appearances for Real Sociedad across a two-and-a-half year period. But the 28-year-old joined Valencia on-loan in January and has began to find form, scoring five times.
(Image: SNS Group) One supporter wrote on X: “The NFF is very unfair to Dessers. He's currently our best no. 9 after Osimhen this season. Why was he left out?”
A second said: “Would have loved to see Cyriel Dessers here, but good luck to the boys.”
While, another commented: "Cyriel Dessers might be in the form of his life right now, and he isn’t called up."
