Former Rangers captain David Weir is being considered for the director of football role at Everton, according to a report by The Telegraph.
The Toffees are assessing their options amid uncertainty over the future of current director Kevin Thelwell, and Weir has emerged as a potential candidate.
Weir, who is currently Brighton’s technical director, has played a key role in the club’s recent success, helping shape their recruitment strategy.
Weir stepped into the role after Dan Ashworth’s departure to Newcastle United in February 2022.
Despite significant changes within the club since then, including multiple staff moves to Chelsea, Weir has remained a key figure behind the scenes.
Now, the 54-year-old could be reunited with David Moyes, who he played under many years ago.
While he oversaw the club’s most recent transfer window activity, Thelwell’s contract expires at the end of the season, with no confirmation on whether he will stay.

For Rangers supporters, Weir is best remembered for his time at Ibrox, where he captained the club to multiple league titles under Walter Smith.
His leadership and defensive reliability made him a fan favourite, and he was named Scotland’s Football Writers’ Player of the Year in 2010.
A move to Goodison Park would see Weir return to a club where he spent eight years as a player before joining Rangers in 2007.
He was previously interviewed for the vacant managerial role at Everton after David Moyes took the Manchester United job in 2013 after impressing with the reserve team.
