Former RAF Serviceman flying high with Gloucestershire home surveys firm

A former RAF Serviceman has thanked a Gloucestershire home surveys specialist for helping him to progress in his second career.

Joel Fryer served in the Royal Air Force for more than 20 years before making the switch to residential surveying, working with Maisemore-based business GB Home Surveys.

Mr Fryer said he was first introduced to the trade by the company’s managing director James Quinn, when the pair met at a school reunion.

The ex-military man said Mr Quinn was “so enthused” about the industry he asked his former schoolmate to help mentor him through the training process towards becoming an RICS accredited surveyor.

After attaining a Level 6 Diploma in Residential Surveying Mr Fryer was offered a role with GB Home Surveys, and has now achieved Associate Membership of the RICS.

Mr Fryer said: “Not only has James’ support and knowledge been invaluable and enabled me to transition from military life seamlessly, but I am also incredibly grateful to have been able to join the team at GB Home Surveys and have been able to apply my qualification, helping hundreds of customers with surveys and valuations.

“I completely owe my second career to James and would certainly encourage other ex-servicemen and women to pursue a new career that they feel passionate in or excited about.”

GB Home Surveys said Mr Fryer had progressed “significantly” to become one of the firm’s “leading” surveyors.

Mr Quinn said: “I am very proud of Joel and everything he has achieved since joining GB Home Surveys. He is a real testament to both the RAF and RICS, and an excellent example of how anyone can transition their profession and form a successful second career. The team and I look forward to working with Joel for years to come and I am no doubt he will continue to thrive in residential surveying.”

Originally established as Gooch and Burley Chartered Surveyors in 1992, GB Home Surveys was acquired by Mr Quinn, in 2016. The business’ team of 12 surveyors serves clients across the South West, West Midlands and South Wales.
