Former President Donald Trump announced his plans to visit Springfield, Ohio, within the next two weeks during a rally in Uniondale, New York. This decision comes after Trump had been promoting an unfounded conspiracy theory about Haitian immigrants in Springfield allegedly eating people's pets.
During the rally, Trump mentioned his upcoming visits to Springfield and Aurora, Colorado, cities where he has previously made false claims about immigration. He expressed his determination to carry out his plans, stating, 'I gotta do what I gotta do.'
While Trump acknowledged the mayor of Springfield as 'a very nice person,' he criticized the mayor for not expelling the migrants that Trump falsely claimed were undocumented.
Contrary to Trump's assertions, the city of Springfield clarified on its website that there are approximately 12,000 to 15,000 immigrants residing in Clark County, which has a total population of 136,000. The Haitian immigrants in question are legally present in the United States under a parole program that permits citizens and lawful residents to sponsor their family members from Haiti.
