Former President Trump is currently facing trial for 34 counts related to accusations of falsifying business records to conceal an alleged affair with adult film actress Stormy Daniels. The affair reportedly took place in 2006, with Daniels claiming she was paid $130,000 for her silence by Trump's former lawyer, Michael Cohen, just before the 2016 election.
Trump has consistently denied both the affair and any wrongdoing in relation to the hush money payment. The prosecution alleges that Trump orchestrated the concealment of the payment by having Cohen transfer the money and then categorizing it as legal expenses.
The trial, which is ongoing, stems from an investigation initiated by former Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance and is now being pursued by current DA Alvin Bragg. This marks the first criminal case against Trump to go to trial and is also the first criminal trial involving a former U.S. president.
Following Trump's indictment in April 2023, DA Bragg accused him of 'falsifying New York business records to hide damaging information and unlawful activities from American voters both before and after the 2016 election.'
