A recent poll conducted in Iowa has revealed that former President Trump is leading President Biden by 18 points among likely voters in the state. The poll, conducted by the Des Moines Register/Mediacom, shows Trump at 50% and Biden at 32%.

In addition to the two major party candidates, independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. garnered 9% support, while Libertarian Party candidate Chase Oliver received 3% backing. The survey also showed 3% of likely voters supporting other candidates.

Iowa, once a swing state that former President Barack Obama carried in the 2008 and 2012 elections, has shifted to the right in recent years. Trump won the state by 9 points in 2016 and by 8 points in 2020. His current 18-point lead over Biden marks an increase from the previous poll conducted in February.

The poll, conducted from June 9-14, took place after Trump was found guilty of all 34 felony counts in the first trial of a former or current president in U.S. history. President Biden's approval rating in the poll was at 28%, with two-thirds of respondents disapproving of his performance. Biden's favorable rating was at 33% favorable and 66% unfavorable.

Comparatively, Trump held a 51%-47% favorable/unfavorable rating in the survey. The poll sampled 632 likely voters in Iowa, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

Former President Trump has been actively engaging with Iowa voters, making multiple stops in the state last year and early this year. His last visit to Iowa was in April 2022, as he continues to maintain a strong lead in the state.
