Former President Trump Falsely Claims No Deaths On Jan. 6

Former U.S. President Donald Trump attends the Trump Organization civil fraud trial, in New York

During a news conference held at Mar-a-Lago on Thursday, former President Donald Trump made a false claim that no one was killed on January 6th. This statement contradicts the facts surrounding the violent events that unfolded at the U.S. Capitol on that day.

On January 6, 2021, a mob of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building in an attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. During the chaos, multiple individuals lost their lives, including Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick, who died from injuries sustained while defending the Capitol.

In addition to Officer Sicknick, four other individuals died as a result of the violence that occurred on January 6. Ashli Babbitt, a Trump supporter, was shot and killed by law enforcement while attempting to breach a barricaded door within the Capitol. Three other individuals died due to medical emergencies during the insurrection.

The events of January 6 have been widely condemned as an attack on democracy and the rule of law. The storming of the Capitol led to the certification of President Joe Biden's electoral victory being temporarily halted as lawmakers were evacuated to safety.

Former President Trump's false claim that no one was killed on January 6 is not supported by the evidence and serves to downplay the severity of the violence that occurred that day. The events of January 6 continue to be the subject of ongoing investigations and legal proceedings as authorities seek to hold those responsible for the attack accountable.
