Former President Jimmy Carter's casket has been placed in the Capitol Rotunda, where it will remain until Thursday morning. A military guard of honor will stand watch over the casket during this time.
Military body bearers carried the casket up the steps of the US Capitol, followed by a solemn 21-gun salute. The casket was then brought into the Rotunda for the lying in state ceremony.
A short service is scheduled to take place in the Rotunda, with members of Congress and other invited guests in attendance. Eulogies are expected to be delivered by Majority Leader John Thune, Speaker Mike Johnson, and Vice President Kamala Harris.
