Proposals to turn a Stewarton restaurant into flats have been approved by council planners.
The former Oven eaterie and adjoining Vennel bar in the town centre will now be converted into four apartments.
Two flats will be constructed on each floor of the Vennel Street building that ceased operating last May.
The building was a granary which was then used as a bar/restaurant from 2009. Oven closed in May 2022 after three years operating.
The application argues that, while the property is in the town centre and sits among commercial properties, it also borders a residential area.
Despite being located in the town centre and nestled amongst other commercial properties, it also borders areas of residential development.
Officials at East Ayrshire Council approved blueprints with nine conditions attached to the project.
Developers must start the project within three years and all replacement windows need to be approved by planners. A number of conditions relating to materials, car parking and site operating hours were also specified.
A report into the development states that materials would be high quality and locally sourced where possible ‘to minimise environmental impact of transportation whilst supporting the local economy and making a positive contribution to the locale.
It continued: “The refurbishment of the property will ensure the life of the building is extended, and in a way which results in substantially lower environmental impact than a new-build property.”
