Former Green Bay Packers offensive lineman Jon Runyan Jr. is expected to sign a three-year, $30 million deal with the New York Giants, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. The deal includes $17 million guaranteed.
Runyan was a sixth-round pick out of Michigan in 2020. He became a three-year starter for the Packers at guard, starting 50 games along the offensive line between 2021 and 2023 — including all 17 games in both 2022 and 2023.
Clearly, the Giants are paying Runyan to be an immediate starter in New York.
Due to injuries and inconsistent play, the Packers rotated Runyan and 2022 third-round pick Sean Rhyan at right guard during the second half of last season. Rhyan will be expected to compete to start at right guard in 2024, and the Packers will almost certainly dip into the draft to add competition at both offensive tackle and on the interior.
Overall, Runyan played 3,192 regular season snaps on offense for the Packers over four seasons.
Runyan, the 192nd overall pick in 2020, turns 27 years old in August. He is the son of great Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman Jon Runyan.
Runyan joins Darnell Savage as the two Packers free agents to find new deals early in the process on Monday. Savage is headed to the Jacksonville Jaguars on a three-year deal.
