Former Ohio State swimmer qualifies for Olympics with Team Puerto Rico

While the U.S. swimming team has been announced with just one former Ohio State athlete making the team, other countries are still finishing up the final preparations and team selections for Paris 2024.

One such Olympic team had another former Buckeye make it in the person of Kristen Romano who will represent Team Puerto Rico. She made the team by clocking in a time of 2:13.09 at the Atlanta Classic last month, good enough for a gold medal in the event, and ultimately earning her a spot on the team when the roster was announced this week.

Romano graduated from Ohio State in 2022. This will be her first career Olympic Games. She is the seventh athlete with Ohio State swimming and diving ties to punch her ticket to the Olympics; current Buckeyes Lena Hentschel (Germany), Tomas Navikonis (Lithuania), Tristan Jankovics (Canada) and Alex Axon (Canada), former swimmer Hunter Armstrong (USA) and incoming Buckeye Emma Finlin (Canada) have already qualified according to a release from Ohio State.

Get out those Scarlet and Gray pom-poms and get ready to root for former OSU athletes in July.
