Former Ohio State guard Taylor Mikesell waived by Indiana Fever

Things are a little different in the WNBA than the good ‘ole fashioned NBA. Ohio State guard, Taylor Mikesell, was selected by the Indiana Fever as the first pick in the second round (No. 13 overall) of the 2023 WNBA draft. That would be more than good enough for an NBA team to invest in you and let things play out with development and plenty of opportunity.

In the WNBA though, with only 12 roster spots among 12 teams, not so much. Mikesell, unfortunately, found that out on Wednesday when she was released from the Fever just a couple of weeks after hearing her name called in the draft.

All indications and reports suggest that Mikesell had a very good camp when she got to Indy, but it wasn’t enough. It can likely be chalked up to the situation and hard roster moves that must be made in the WNBA.

Unfortunately for Mikesell, there really isn’t a soft landing spot with each team in the league dealing with the same roster constraints and similar tough decisions of their own.

But don’t give up on the Massillon, Ohio, native. She has the sharpshooting skills that someone will likely want to give another look to down the road.

We wish her nothing but the best.
