Former Ohio State basketball guard Jamaal Brown passes away

We have some sad news to pass along to the Ohio State family. Former Ohio State basketball guard and captain, Jamaal Brown, has passed away at the age of 52 at his home in Texas according to a release from the university’s athletic department.

For those that grew up watching the Buckeyes in the early ’90s, Brown will be remembered well. He played for Ohio State from 1988 to 1992, helping lead the team to two Big Ten titles and three NCAA Tournament appearances alongside Jimmy Jackson in the backcourt.

Out of Arlington, Texas, Brown appeared in 127 games for the Buckeyes, averaged 9.0 points per game, and scored 1,139 in his time in Columbus. Brown was a leader on and off the court and will be sorely missed.

Little known to many, Brown wrote Ohio State to express interest in playing for the Buckeyes and that got him on the recruiting radar. After watching him play, it was a no-brainer that he was more than good enough to wear the scarlet and gray.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Brown’s family and friends during this difficult time.
