Former New York Gov. David Paterson and his stepson were walking their dog in Manhattan on Friday night when they were allegedly attacked by three young suspects. The incident occurred on Second Avenue near East 96th Street shortly before 9 p.m. According to police sources, the suspects, possibly teenagers, were climbing a fire escape when Paterson, 70, and his stepson, 20, encountered them.
The victims reportedly told the suspects to stop, but the situation escalated, leading to an attack. Paterson's spokesperson, Sean Darcy, stated that the suspects had a previous interaction with Paterson's stepson. Despite sustaining injuries, both Paterson and his stepson were able to fend off their attackers.
Paterson suffered a head injury, while his stepson sustained a facial injury. Both were taken to a local hospital for medical treatment. As of Friday night, no arrests had been made in connection with the incident.
David Paterson served as the governor of New York from 2008 to 2010. His wife, Mary Sliwa, is the ex-wife of Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa.
