Former Liberal MP Rory Amon allegedly posed as a 17-year-old to meet up with the 13-year-old boy he is accused of sexually assaulting, according to court documents.
As reported by Sydney Morning Herald, It’s alleged that the 35-year-old politician, who quit NSW parliament when the allegations first arose last August, first interacted with the boy on the “gay hook-up website Squirt.org”, according to prosecutors.
The conversation then moved to Snapchat, where Amon — formerly elected to the seat of Pittwater in Sydney’s Northern Beaches — allegedly exchanged explicit content with the teenager, prior to meeting him on two separate occasions.
While exchanging content, the teenager, who is said to have lied about his age to establish a profile, was allegedly told that Amon was 17 years old, ten years younger than the MP’s actual age at the time.
Prosecutors allege that Amon “knew that the complainant was a child under the age of 16 years when he committed these offences”.
The exchanges over social media allegedly resulted in two meetups in 2017 in the carpark bathroom of an apartment complex in the Northern Beaches.
During the first alleged meeting, Amon is accused of kissing and engaging in oral sex with the teenager.
It’s alleged at the subsequent meeting Amon sexually assaulted the teen multiple times, leaving him feeling “overwhelmed and repulsed”, the documents state.
Amon has been charged with 10 offences — including two counts of attempted sexual intercourse with a child between the ages of 10 and 14.
He has pleaded not guilty to all charges and is awaiting trial in the NSW District Court.
“The nature of the charges against me are such that I will be unable to continue to fully represent my community in parliament,” Amon said when the allegations came to light.
“As a result, I have tendered my resignation as the Member for Pittwater, effective immediately.”
Amon is due to be arraigned on Friday, when a future trial date is expected to be set.
