Former Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Jordan Wright is set for an increased role with Lincoln City after an injury blow to Josh Griffiths.
The Imps' 20-year-old shot-stopper had to be helped off in added time during a 3-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday with Wright being brought on for the final moments.
Wright joined Lincoln City in January on an 18-month deal, but he has been back-up to Griffiths since Sam Long - a prospective Imps No 1 - joined Irish side Drogheda on loan for their 2022 campaign.
It is unclear whether City will be able to recall Long - who is seen as a number one of the future - at such short notice.
“We don’t know at the minute, we think he may have turned the ankle,” said Michael Appleton of Griffiths' injury.
“It’ll depend where it is - the back of the ankle, the front of the ankle. Clearly, we’re going to have to find out very quickly on that one and do what we need to do.”
“I’ll have to find out on that one,” said Appleton, who will turn to Wright if Griffiths is not available and Long cannot be recalled.
“To be fair to Jordan, he’s been excellent in training. Sometimes he doesn’t look easy on the eye but what he does do is make saves.
“If called upon, I’ve got no problems.”
