Former NFL QB Takes High School Coaching Job

Tim Hasselbeck has been a consistent presence in the football world since his time at Boston College and as a journeyman NFL quarterback. The brother of former Seahawks star QB Matt Hasselbeck is now joining the coaching ranks, taking over the program at The Ensworth School in Nashville.

“I am deeply thankful and honored for this opportunity to lead the Ensworth football program,” Hasselbeck said, per a release. “Our family has been part of the Ensworth community for nearly a decade, and this Ensworth community has been like family to us. Our football team, as students of Ensworth, will carry the mission to pursue integrity and excellence on the field, in the classroom, and as contributors to the City of Nashville.”

Hasselbeck is no stranger to the school, serving as a coach for its middle school football program for four years, according to an Ensworth statement, per The Tennessean.

The Hasselbeck brothers each played in the NFL after starring at Boston College.

The former quarterback replaces coach Roc Batten, who resigned following the 2023 season. He went 32–22 in five years leading the Tigers, with four trips to the TSSAA playoffs, topping out in a trip to the Division II-AAA semifinals in 2019. The team went 8–3 in ’23, losing to rival Montgomery Bell Academy in a playoff quarterfinal game 17–14 in overtime.

Hasselbeck went undrafted out of Boston College in 2001. He played in 12 total NFL games (five starts) from ’02 to ’07, making appearances for the Eagles, Commanders, Giants and Cardinals. He became an ESPN analyst in ’08, alongside his brother, Matt.
