Former NFL defensive back Eric Johnson was one of eight people indicted on myriad charges—including human trafficking—in relation to a gang investigation, according to Georgia attorney general Chris Carr.
Johnson was a defensive back for Nebraska before starting his NFL career in 2000 with the Raiders. He later played for the Falcons and Cardinals and was last active on an NFL roster in 2005. He was one of two NFL players named Eric Johnson at the time.
According to a release from Carr’s office, Johnson and seven other alleged gang members were arrested by the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office special investigations section. All eight people are believed to be a part of the LOTTO (Last One To Take Over) gang, per the release.
Johnson, 46, is being charged with trafficking of persons for sexual servitude, racketeering, aggravated assault, kidnapping and violations of the Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act. The eight defendants “are alleged to have engaged in the trafficking of five female victims,” one of whom was a minor. Johnson is believed to hold a leadership role within the gang, according to authorities.
