Former Everton interim boss Duncan Ferguson has lauded Anthony Gordon's training ground ethic with him set to become Newcastle United's second most expensive player in the club's history. The former Magpies striker, who worked alongside Gordon at Goodison Park has lifted the lid on what the playmaker will bring to Eddie Howe's side.
The Toon head coach already knows a thing or two about the former Toffees playmaker, after an altercation between Kieran Trippier, Fabian Schar and the Everton midfielder at St. James' Park earlier this season. Howe's side ran out 1-0 winners against Lampard's men, but it was Gordon who almost stole the headlines for going down too easily in the box.
Newcastle's back line didn't take too kindly to the incident, which saw both Gordon and Schar booked. The Everton playmaker showed that bit of bite that was missing from the rest of his team-mates on the night.

There have been questions marks over the attitude of the 21-year-old, but Ferguson has eased those concerns with a glowing reference back in September last year. Speaking ahead of the Merseyside derby, Ferguson told BT Sport: "Hard working, dedicated, obsessed. Really, really trains his hardest every day as you've got to do.
"He's right on his diet, right on everything you know. I mean, he's very meticulous in his preparation and he's a very good boxer as well, he does a bit of sparring in the local gyms believe it or not.
"I don't know if Frank [Lampard] knows, but I know."
