Former Newcastle favourite fires brutal Sunderland Netflix dig in response to Arsenal transfer target

Former Newcastle United goalkeeper Tim Krul has endeared himself once again to the Toon Army following a cheeky social media jibe against Sunderland. The ex-Magpies shot-stopper is seemingly a fan of the Netflix series Sunderland 'Til I Die, judging by his recommendation of the show to international colleague Jurrien Timber.

Krul spent 12 years on Tyneside before making a permanent switch to Brighton in 2017. The Netherlands international made 184 appearances for United, including a memorable debut in the UEFA Cup victory over Palermo, before falling out of favour under Rafa Benitez.

Krul was no stranger to the Tyne-Wear derby, and clearly could not resist an opportunity to fire a dig at the Black Cats on Twitter. Ajax defender Timber, who has been tipped to join Arsenal this summer, had asked supporters to social media over a new TV series to watch, and Krul suggested Sunderland 'Til I Die as the 'most entertaining series around'.

The show ran for two seasons in the wake of the Black Cats' relegation to the Premier League, with the first season following Simon Grayson and Chris Coleman's efforts as the team suffered a second successive relegation. The second season centered on Sunderland's failed efforts to earn promotion from League One after a takeover fronted by Stewart Donald and Charlie Methven.

Krul's tongue-in-cheek recommendation was quickly applauded by Newcastle fans on social media, with several labelling the 35-year-old as a 'legend'. The post inevitably drew the ire of several Sunderland supporters, with many taking the opportunity to remind the goalkeeper of several derby defeats he suffered at the Stadium of Light.
