Former Motherwell defender joins Blantyre Victoria as star leaves KG Stadium

Blantyre Victoria boss John Gibson has added two new players to his squad - and he hopes they can help boost the club’s survival hopes.

Vics are currently second-bottom of West of Scotland Football League Premier Division, although Gibson was impressed by their performance in a 2-1 South Challenge Cup loss to Linlithgow Rose.

Sam McKenzie’s goal after half-time wasn’t enough to prevent Blantyre from exiting the cup.

They have bolstered their ranks ahead of taking on Benburb in league action this Saturday. Former Motherwell and Airdrie defender Luke Watt has arrived from Linlithgow while midfielder Marc Smith arrives from Lowland League club Broomhill.

Gibson said: “I’ve brought in another couple of bodies this week to try and help us. Luke Watt comes in from Linlithgow and I’ve brought Marc Smith in from Linlithgow.

“We are happy to get them in as they will be good additions for us. They are good players. They trained this week so they will be in contention for this Saturday.”

Forward Aaron Black meanwhile has returned to parent club Darvel following the expiry of his loan spell: “He might go on loan somewhere else or he’ll stay at Darvel.

“He won’t be coming back to us. That is done for us. We are disappointed but Darvel have decided to take him back. We could have looked to extend it but it wasn’t happening.

“We will now move on and we are still looking for a striker. But then again, everybody is looking for one of them, aren’t they?”
