Former MLB center fielder Carlos Gómez was capital-F Fast. Steal-268-career-bases fast. He swiped 30 or more bags on four different occasions.
Now, the retired baseball mainstay seems to have decided he needs to travel faster.
Gómez is attempting to qualify for the 2024 Olympics as a track cyclist, Todd Rosiak of The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel wrote in a Friday afternoon social media post.
Per Rosiak, Gómez will race in a May qualifier that could give him a shot at representing his native Dominican Republic in Paris. Far better known for baseball, boxing and track, the nation has sent just one cyclist to the Olympics in its history—road cyclist Diego Milán in 2016.
Carlos Gomez is currently training for the Paris Olympics in cycling -- no joke. If he wins a qualifying race in May it sounds like he will have the chance to represent the Dominican Republic in the 500 meters in the velodrome.

With the way he ran the bases, no surprise!
Once upon a time, Gómez played 13 seasons for the Milwaukee Brewers, Minnesota Twins, Texas Rangers, New York Mets, Houston Astros and Tampa Bay Rays.
He peaked during a stretch in 2013 and ‘14, making two All-Star teams and hitting exactly .284 in back-to-back years for the Brewers.
