Former Manchester United player says it would 'hurt' to see Cristiano Ronaldo join Man City

Former Manchester United midfielder Luke Chadwick insists it would "hurt" to see Cristiano Ronaldo join Manchester City.

With less than a week of the summer transfer window remaining, City, who have seen their ambitions of signing Harry Kane come to an end, are looking to try and pull off a sensational deal for Ronaldo instead.

MEN Sport understands that City have made progress in the hope of getting a deal over the line, but they still need to overcome obstacles before it can be considered as being close.

But if they were to reach an agreement with Juventus to bring Ronaldo back to the Premier League, it would not be the first time that a former big-name United player had crossed the city's divide, with the likes of Peter Schmeichel, Denis Law and Carlos Tevez having played for both clubs in the past.

However, whilst Chadwick has admitted that he doesn't think a move to City would destroy Ronaldo's legacy at United, he believes it would still be a painful one to stomach.

"Yes, I think it would hurt. I still don’t think it would destroy his legacy, as it were, of what he was as a Manchester United player," Chadwick told CaughtOffside.

"He was an incredible young player at United and then moved on and went on to become one of the best the world’s ever seen.

"It would be hard for any United fan to see him pull on that light blue shirt, it wouldn’t seem right. But I think it would be incredible to see him in the Premier League again.

"We thought we might get to see Messi at one point but to see Ronaldo back in the Premier League would be wonderful for English football.

"Obviously I wouldn’t find it too great seeing him in a Man City shirt, but I do think it would be fantastic to see him back here."

During his United career, Ronaldo, who is out-of-contract at Juventus next summer, netted 118 goals in 292 appearances before moving to Real Madrid.
