Former Manchester United player Louis Saha explains why he hugged Cristiano Ronaldo as Gary Neville was ignored

Louis Saha attempted to distance himself from what happened between Cristiano Ronaldo and Gary Neville at Manchester United last month.

Ahead of the clash with West Ham at Old Trafford Saha, who was working for Sky Sports alongside Neville, was greeted by Ronaldo during the warm-ups. However, the 37-year-old opted to snub shaking hands with his other former teammate Neville following his criticisms of the forward during the campaign.

When asked about the incident on Sky Sports, Saha chose to give a diplomatic answer. "It is a good gesture," the ex-United striker insisted after being asked about the warm reception he had received.

"It is always nice to see a former player. [He] is a tremendous legend for the club so was great reception but what happened next is none of my business."

Piers Morgan asked Ronaldo about the incident with Neville at Old Trafford and the forward explained that the former defender was 'not his friend'. He also took the opportunity to take aim at Wayne Rooney who has also been critical of the Portuguese star.

On Tuesday, United announced that Ronaldo would be leaving the club by mutual agreement with immediate effect. This came as a response to the TalkTV interview which aired in its entirety a week prior.

When asked further about Ronaldo, Saha offered a defence of his former teammate. "It is funny because he is well known to be arrogant, uber-confident but he is a humble guy," he added.

Ronaldo was once again in the headlines on Wednesday after the FA opted to fine him £50,000 and hand him a two-game ban. This comes following an incident at Goodison Park last season when the Portuguese forward knocked the phone out of the hand of a young Everton supporter.
