Former Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo makes honest admission over exit from club

Former Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo has said he “made the right decision” in leaving Old Trafford last year.

It’s 12 months since the Argentine brought his time at United to an end, having become a peripheral figure during his final couple of years at the club.

Rojo’s last senior game for United came in December 2019, with the defender heading out on loan to his boyhood club Estudiantes a month later but playing just one match for the remainder of the season.

His time at United eventually came to an end in February 2020 when a fee was agreed for him to return to his home country and join Boca Juniors.

Since then, Rojo has managed to overcome many of the injury problems that plagued him during his time in England to become a regular for the Argentine giants.

And, reflecting on his one-year anniversary in a post on Instagram, the 31-year-old expressed no regrets at his decision to leave Old Trafford.

“A day like today but a year ago I arrived at @bocajrsoficial,” Rojo wrote.

“Personally, I assumed a huge challenge, knowing the responsibility and commitment that wearing these colours meant! Today I can say that I made the right decision… And there are still many more to come!”

Rojo has made 30 appearances for Boca Juniors since returning to South America, and helped the club win the Copa Argentina in December, scoring in the penalty shootout win over Talleres.

During his time at United, he lifted the FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League before injury wrecked his final years at the club, with his eventual move back to Argentina becoming a necessity for both United and Rojo.
