Former Manchester United assistant tells Ralf Rangnick the two things club needs to be successful

Former Manchester United assistant Rene Meulensteen has said the club have lost the vision and organisation that made them successful under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Under Sir Alex, United won 13 Premier League titles and dominated English football over the 26 years he was in charge of the club.

Since his retirement in 2013, United have failed to lift the league title and have lost ground both on and off the pitch to rivals Man City and Liverpool.

Under interim boss Ralf Rangnick, United are trying to create an attacking brand of football and close the gap between themselves and those above them.

Meulensteen saw first hand what made Ferguson's United sides successful and said the club no longer have the organisation or vision which makes City and Liverpool winners.

“It says enough that the club has never won the championship since then,’’ said Meulensteen, via the Mirror.

“The worst part is that United have completely lost their identity. Everything Ferguson had built up over the years has been thrown overboard. United had their own way of playing, they played in an attractive, creative way. But that recognisable United football is gone.

“If you want to be successful it is important to have continuity in your vision and a solid, stable organisation. United no longer have either of those things, while Liverpool with Jurgen Klopp and Manchester City with Pep Guardiola do have that stability. You can see that in their successes.”
