A former Ajax manager has suggested Cody Gakpo made a mistake signing for Liverpool - and doubled down with a bizarre claim about Jurgen Klopp.
The Reds completed the signing of Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven at the start of the January transfer window. Liverpool will pay the Eredivisie club £37 million in an initial fee with future add-ons taking the deal to over £40m.
Gakpo made his debut for Liverpool in the draw with Wolves in the FA Cup on Saturday night. The 23-year-old could be in line for his Premier League bow against Brighton this weekend.

Despite plenty of hype around Gakpo’s arrival, one former manager is not that impressed with the deal. Ex-Ajax boss Aad de Mos believes that Gakpo has joined Liverpool at the wrong time.
The former PSV, Werder Bremen and Anderlecht manager went on to make a rather odd claim about Klopp’s future as Liverpool manager.
"He arrives at a time when the team is disappointing a bit,” De Mos told Soccernews.nl, in an interview translated from Dutch.
“The spirit is completely gone and they are not among the best teams at the moment just like Chelsea.
"Liverpool are trying to get back on track at the moment and it's not a time for young players coming in, so I don't know if the time is right to go to Liverpool now.
"Also, maybe Jurgen Klopp is leaving soon...but Liverpool got him quite cheap because PSV is in a need right now to stay out of red numbers."
