Former Manchester United and Portigal winger icon Nani has officially retired, drawing the curtain on a remarkable 19-year career.
The 38-year-old announced his decision in a heartfelt video on social media.
Nani began his journey in Sporting Lisbon’s youth academy before joining Manchester United in 2007 at just 20 years old.
Following in the footsteps of his compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani quickly cemented his place in the squad under Sir Alex Ferguson.
In his debut season, he played an important role in helping United secure both the Premier League and the Champions League.
His decisive penalty in the Champions League final shootout against Chelsea is etched in the memory of fans worldwide.
Over his tenure at Old Trafford, Nani clinched four Premier League titles, two League Cups, and the FIFA Club World Cup, among other honours.
Nani’s impact wasn’t limited to his club career. On the international stage, he was instrumental in Portugal’s historic Euro 2016 triumph, scoring and assisting key goals and captaining the side during the final when Ronaldo was forced off due to injury.
