Former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch has questioned the decision to postpone football matches this weekend.
The Premier League confirmed on Friday none of the 10 scheduled matches will take place over the next couple of days following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The EFL and Women's Super League have also followed suit.
They released in a statement earlier today: "To honour her extraordinary life and contribution to the nation, and as a mark of respect, this weekend’s Premier League match round will be postponed, including Monday evening’s game. Richard Masters, Premier League Chief Executive, said: “We and our clubs would like to pay tribute to Her Majesty’s long and unwavering service to our country."

Manchester United's Europa League group stage game against Real Sociedad went ahead at Old Trafford last night and the players wore black armbands, while a minutes silence was also observed before kick-off. Crouch has suggested such gestures would be a better send off for the nation's longest-serving monarch.
He shared in a tweet: "I know it’s only a game and some things are much bigger but imagine all our games went ahead this weekend. Black armbands, silences observed, national anthem, Royal band playing etc to the millions around the world watching? Isn’t that a better send off?"
Following the news, Liverpool' s Premier League match against Chelsea next weekend is also a major doubt with reports suggesting police will instead be deployed to London ahead of the Queen's funeral. Although, the ECHO understands the club are still expecting the meeting with Ajax in Group A of the Champions League on Tuesday night to go ahead as things stand.
Liverpool said in a statement today regarding the Wolves fixture: "Liverpool Football Club can confirm the postponement of the home game against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday September 10. This decision was made by the Premier League following the sad passing of Her Majesty The Queen.
"The fixture will now be rescheduled, with updated details to follow in due course. Tickets will remain valid for the new match date. Please note, supporters who have purchased tickets for the Wolverhampton Wanderers game will be contacted directly by the club with further information once available."
