Former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez 'in talks' with new club just months after dream move

LA Galaxy and Luis Suarez are 'in talks' over a potential move to the MLS, according to Spanish daily AS.

The former Liverpool striker has been turning out for his boyhood club Nacional in Uruguay, where he has four goals in eight Primera Division appearances this season, but looks likely to move onto pastures new once his contract runs out in November. The 35-year-old made the dream move back to Uruguay - 21 years after leaving for Dutch side Groningen - so he could play regularly and improve his fitness ahead of the World Cup later this year.

But upon his return from Qatar, the striker will be a free agent, and reports suggest LA Galaxy are one of a number of MLS clubs in discussions with the player and his agent.

Suarez has an option to extend his contract at Nacional by one year, but that looks unlikely - as does a return to Europe, with the former Barcelona and Atletico Madrid forward previously admitting his time on the continent is up.

"Yes because I already did my European career and I left there very proud," he told Marca when asked if his time in Europe is over. “I had many options, many, before coming to Nacional, but the meaning of coming to my country was also that: Groningen, Ajax, Liverpool, Barca, Atletico... What better career than that in Europe?

"For this reason, I could not finish - after Atletico - in another inferior team. That trajectory was perfect. I would have lowered the level and that's how I ended up at the highest level: Atletico. Hence, it made sense to come to Uruguay, not because it is a minor league, but to close a circle."

Should he move to Los Angeles, Suarez will join up with former Manchester United striker Chicharito Hernandez, after the Mexican extended his stay with the MLS club for a further year. The American fanbase will be desperate to replace their previous south-American marquee striker, Gonzalo Higuain, who confirmed he will retire at the end of Inter Miami's campaign.
