Former Liverpool striker Andriy Voronin sends message following Ukraine invasion

Former Liverpool striker Andriy Voronin says 'we will remember this day forever' following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

There were widespread reports on Thursday morning of explosions in major cities after Russian president Vladimir Putin announced that a military operation had begun.

Voronin, who reached over 70 caps for his home country during his player career, has taken to social media.

"We will remember this day forever," he wrote in a Instagram post.

"My country, rockets flew at my beloved city today, stop what are you doing?"

The 42-year-old left Liverpool to join Dynamo Moscow in 2010 and later called time on his playing career in July 2014.

He's now the assistant manager to Sandro Schwarz at Dynamo Moscow and has held the position since October 2020.
