Former Liverpool chief executive Peter Moore has claimed that the club’s 4-0 win over Manchester United is evidence of the 'focused planning' that went into building the current side.
The victory over their fierce rival at Anfield saw the Reds climb to the top of the Premier League table, at least on a temporary basis. Jurgen Klopp’s side also recently booked their place in the FA Cup final and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League, having already lifted the Carabao Cup.
For Moore, after watching Liverpoo l sweep United aside, it gave him cause to reflect and celebrate what he had been a part of at Anfield. The Liverpudlian was chief executive and managing director of the club between 2017 and 2020, where he oversaw the team’s journey to both Champions League and Premier League glory.

Posting on Twitter, he said: “What we were all fortunate to witness this evening was the result of multi-year, patient, focused planning to build a squad capable of playing at the highest level in a well-defined, high-pressure system for an entire season in multiple competitions. What a time to be a Red…#YNWA”
Having arrived at the club in June 2017, the boyhood Liverpool fan helped preside over the club's growth off-the-field as Jurgen Klopp brought in the majority of players that make up his current squad. With the Reds now chasing an unprecedented quadruple, it appears that Moore is content with the contributions he made towards the club becoming what it is today.
Spending three years in his role, Moore became a popular figure with Liverpool fans through his use of social media, where he interacted with fans. He also became a Life President of the Fans Supporting Foodbanks initiative in 2020.
In his farewell letter to Liverpool fans in 2020, he wrote: “The last three years have been a whirlwind of activity and hard work, and as a result, I leave with our beloved football club in fantastic shape, both on and off the pitch. As my Scouse nana always told me... “leave the rooms in a better state than when you entered it”. I truly believe that’s the case with LFC.”
