Former Liverpool forward Michael Owen has tipped Leeds United to be embroiled in another relegation battle this season.
Leeds are winless in their last four league games (D2, L2) but have amassed three more points (nine) than at this stage last term. The Whites finished three points above the drop zone in 2021/22 and lost key players in the shape of Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips in the summer.
In response, Jesse Marsch added eight summer recruits, including Brenden Aaronson, Tyler Adams and Luis Sinisterra. Although Leeds are just three points adrift of the top six, Owen has remarkably suggested that the Whites should be “concerned for their future”.
Owen told Premier League Productions: “On face value, you think, ‘oh, you only just survived last season and now you have lost your best players’.

“Now they have recruited, but who knows what they will turn out like? They don’t score enough goals. Under the previous manager, they scored and conceded loads of goals.
“But nowadays, they don’t really look like scoring goals. So, I would be quite concerned. They have had a decent enough start to the season, but I will be concerned for their future.
“They are one of the teams that lack quality in the Premier League and they could be one of them battling it out for survival at the end of the season.”
Although there are legitimate concerns surrounding Patrick Bamford’s inability to prove his fitness, Leeds’s tally of 10 goals is by no means the worst in the division.
The Whites have netted the same amount of goals as Chelsea (10) and just one fewer than Manchester United (11). At the other end, 10 other Premier League teams have leaked more goals than Leeds (10 goals conceded) this campaign.
